While the city is moving forward with its application for a $700,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for continued downtown improvements, some council members also want to step up efforts to remove blighted areas and condemned buildings in neighborhoods throughout the municipality.
Councilwoman Shirlie Hampton brought up her concerns regarding “slums and blighted areas” in the city during CDBG discussions; however, both CDBG consultant and City Manager Bob Brown reminded her from previous discussions that none of the available grants could be used for “just demolition.”
