    Another early season for scallops

    Last year’s decision to open the annual scallop season two weeks early along much of Taylor County’s coast on a one-year trial basis has been extended to the 2018 season as well.

    At its meeting earlier this month held near Tallahassee, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) once again approved regionally-specific bay scallop open season dates for 2018, including a change to the season for Levy, Citrus and Hernando counties that was proposed in December. The commission also approved a trial bay scallop season in state waters off Pasco County for this summer.
