‘No threat to students’: Rampant rumors cause widespread panic

    Posted on February 23, 2018

“There is not – and was not – any threat made against any school in Taylor County,” Perry Police Department (PPD) Chief Jamie Cruse repeated numerous times during a Thursday press briefing while flanked by fellow PPD officers, Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies and Taylor County School District officials.

Local law enforcement and school officials made it clear there was no actual incident at Taylor County High School (TCHS): no threat of a shooting, no school lock-down, no bomb threat, no SWAT team response or any of the rumors that spread like wildfire starting around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
