    A multitude of state and local agencies responded to an overturned wood chip truck Friday at the intersection of Highway 98 and US. 27 East. Eddie Charles Akins, 60, of Attapulgus, Ga., “failed to use due caution” when navigating a left turn onto U.S. 27 (Hampton Springs Ave.), Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Charles Swindle reported. The semi-truck overturned onto its right side, with more than half of its trailer’s contents (wood chips) spilling out in front of New Brooklyn M.B. Church.

    The Perry Police Department, Perry Fire Department, City of Perry Pubic Works, Gilman Lumber Company, Jimmie’s Firestone, Lake Jackson Towing, Florida Department of Transportation, SWS Environmental, Doctors’ Memorial Hospital EMS and Florida Department of Environmental Protection all assisted at the scene.
