Florine Sheffield Cope, a lifelong resident of Perry, died Thursday, Sept. 6, at
Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee at age 93. She was born in Shady Grove on Oct. 16, 1924, to her parents, Russell and Nicey Jane Sheffield.
She was predeceased in death by: her parents; her husband, George W. (Dee) Cope; a grandson, Freddie Cope; and all of her brothers and sisters, Jerry Russell (J.R.) Sheffield, Hazel Graham, her twin brother Floyd Sheffield, Viola Pickles and Iris Riddell.
Florine is survived by: her children, Fred Cope and Ann and her husband, Larry Hodges; four
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Nothing made Florine happier than spending time with her family and friends, and she especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, most of whom were in her care when they were young.
She was active in the community, and truly loved everyone she met. Everyone who knew “Mrs. Florine” adored her, and many have said that she was the greatest cook and the sweetest person they have ever known.
Florine lived her life serving others and was always ready to help anyone in need. She was a dedicated Christian, and a member of Crosspoint Baptist Fellowship Church. Florine regularly attended the Senior Center, where she enjoyed socializing with her friends and playing bingo. She was a member of the Quilting Club that met at the public library until her health no longer allowed her to sew those straight lines that she felt were absolutely necessary. She made quilts most of her life, and has left a legacy of her work with her loved ones. She also spent time gardening, playing card games, word puzzles, cooking, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, walking and reading her Bible.
Visitation was held Sunday Sept. 9, from 5-7 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Crosspoint Baptist Fellowship, with interment following in Pisgah Cemetery, where she was laid to rest beside her husband, Dee and grandson Freddie. in Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Taylor County Senior Center in memory of Florine Cope.Burns Funeral Home was entrusted with all arrangements.
