    Betty Jo Howell

    Posted on December 1, 2020

Mrs. Betty Jo Howell, (Maw Maw, Mema, Grandma, Mama), 85, of Steinhatchee left her earthly body and ran into the arms of Jesus on Nov. 25, 2020.

Betty Jo was born Dec. 1, 1934, in Shamrock to Herbert and Grace Burroughs.

She loved the Lord and her family and was a member of Baptist Purity Church in Salem.

She always had a snack (definitely a popsicle or ice cream) for her grandkids, a magazine about country living or Northern travel for her kids and a recipe she “just couldn’t wait to try!”

She knew the power of prayer and reminded us often that she was praying for us. She made a mean biscuit, and her banana pudding was, by far, the best you’d ever eat!

In her later years, though her health was failing, she was faithful to call and check on her friends and family and was quick to interject that she “was ready whenever the Lord saw fit to bring her home

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Beverly Parker.

She leaves behind: her husband of 65 years, Walter Howell; one daughter, Cyndy Carter; three sons, Vance (Debbie) Howell, Shannon (Vikki) Howell and Wade (Jolene) Howell; a son-in-law, Cla Parker; nine grandchildren, Jackie (Rhonda) Carter, Jennifer Yoshioka, Chip (Leigh Anne) Parker, Jade (Justin) Wiles, Jarvis (Rebecca) Howell, Austin Howell, Makaila Howell, Savana Howell and Addison Howell; 13 great-grandchildren, Genesis, Lilyana, Ashlynn, Kynthia, Hiroshi Yoshioka, Caden Carter, Maddox and Lennox Wiles, Haddon and Chasen Parker, Emma, Levi and Liam Howell; a brother, Wayne Burroughs; and a host of nieces, nephews and treasured family and friends.

She will be dearly missed, but there is such great peace knowing she is at home with her Savior. Her legacy lives on in her children and grandchildren who continue to spread the good news of Jesus Christ because she devoted her life to sharing it with them.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 4 p.m. at Carlton Cemetery with pastors Bobby Hiers and Richard Joiner officiating.

All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry. Friends may sign the online guest book at www.joepburnsfuneralhomes.com.
