Growing up a sixth-generation Taylor Countian, Josh Goodman enjoyed a steady diet of homespun stories about the men and women who shaped the county.

“My mother’s family has been in Taylor County since before the Civil War, and I heard stories from my parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. My father isn’t from here, but he was a land surveyor, and that puts you in contact with history because you have to study land ownership – going back generations in some cases,” Goodman said.

“So that’s how my interest in the history of Taylor County started. History in general was something I have always enjoyed learning about, and I had an enjoyable high school experience with history thanks to teachers like Ann White and Tim Tripp,” he said.
