The design phase of the county’s proposed dredging projects in Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee is finally moving forward, but a budget shortfall of more than $1 million is forcing county officials to seek additional funding for the project before the actual dredging begins next year.
Earlier this year, the county selected Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions, Inc. to conduct the design work, funded by a $148,500 grant taken from the county’s $4 million direct allocation of RESTORE Act “Pot 1” funds, consisting of the county’s share of the administrative fines and civil penalties levied after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
