    Posted on February 18, 2022

Jerry Alvin Grubbs was born on Sept. 19, 1935, to Leonard and Ruby McDaniel Grubbs in Perry.

He was one of six children. He was raised in the Baptist church by his parents and continued in his Christian faith as a deacon at Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church in Monticello until his death.

He was employed by B.R. Jones Construction and then A&P Grocery Store where he met the love of his life, Doris Stokley.

Doris became his wife and blessed him with two children: Jerry Alvin Grubbs Jr. and Connie Grubbs Barfield. Jerry and Doris celebrated 65 years of marriage.

In 1967 Jerry became a commissioned agent with the Standard Oil Company, a business he and Doris grew together until 1980, at which time they were given the opportunity to purchase the business. Grubbs Petroleum Sales, Inc., was created and continued as a family-run business until January of this year.

His favorite pastimes were fishing and camping along the local rivers. Another favorite pastime was taking hunting trips for such game as dove, quail, pheasant, deer and elk.

Through his father-in-law, Fred Stokley, he discovered his love of farming and raising cattle, which he did until his death on Feb. 15, 2022.

In his spare time, he loved besting his wife Doris in UNO and various card games and attending fish fries with the family.

Jerry is survived by: his wife, Doris Stokley Grubbs; his daughter, Connie Barfield (Don); his daughter-in-law, Jana Grubbs; a granddaughter, Jessica Bishop (Ronald); great-grandchildren, Kristina and R.J.; his sister, Vivian Miller; his brother, L.J. Grubbs; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.

Jerry is preceded in death by: his son, Alvin Grubbs; his sisters, Hattie Bell Helms and Mary Alice Davis; and his brother, Arvil Grubbs.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Today (Friday) at Roseland Cemetery in Monticello.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Jerry in a special way may send gifts in his memory to the Florida Sheriffs Association and Freewill Baptist Church in care of Sharron Peters at 1106 Old Lloyd Rd., Monticello, FL. 32344.
