John “J.D.” Driggers, 77, of Perry passed away after an extended illness on Feb. 24, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born to the late Green and June (Sharp) Driggers on March 15, 1945, in Old Town. J.D. is survived by: his loving and devoted wife, Sharon (Sadler) Driggers; sisters, Trish Gilliland and Mary Lord; children, Angela Hornsby (Brian), John Driggers Jr. (Valena) and Kristina Jones (Marcus); and grandchildren, Kristen Walker, Whitney Clark, Brittian Hornsby, Kohatha Vaughn (Sarah), Steve Berryhill (Morgan), C.J. Sturdivant (Christen), Trey Driggers (Stephanie), Trevor Driggers, Travis Driggers, Lexie Leeds and Addy Jones; along with nine great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and numerous lifelong friends. He was a great father, better grandfather and the best great-grandfather. J.D. left school at an early age to begin working and he instilled his hard work ethic, along with fun times, as values to everyone in the family. As the patriarch of the family, J.D. worked in the aluminum manufacturing sectors for many years but always found time to fish, grow a garden and spend time with his family. Once he retired he became a full-time fisherman teaching the younger ones how to fall in love with the great outdoors. He will be remembered for his straightforward advice, jokester comments and love for his family and friends. If J.D. liked you, you knew it. If he didn’t like you, you knew that too. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m. at the Steinhatchee Community Center, 1013 Riverside Drive, Steinhatchee, FL 32359. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in JD’s name to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308. Arrangements have been entrusted to ICS Cremation & Funeral Home of Lake City. (www. icsfuneralservices.com)
