    Posted on June 9, 2023

Rubi Horner, 28, passed away on June 1, 2023, in Perry.

She was born Nov. 30, 1994, in El Paso, Texas, to Antonio Villareal and Esmeralda Ortiz.

Rubi served her country honorably in the United States Army for three years as a nurse.

She was a Christian of the Jehovah’s Witnesses faith.

After her retirement from the Army, upon relocating to Perry, she began work at the Taylor Correctional Institute, where she took pride in her role as a nurse.

Rubi loved to dance, and would jump at any opportunity to dance her heart out.

She loved to be out on the ocean with family and friends, out-fishing everyone and watching for dolphins.

She loved to exercise, whether it be lifting weights or going for a run.

Rubi simply loved to have fun, and to bring that fun to all those around her.

What Rubi loved above all else was her family. She was dedicated wife, a beloved daughter and niece, and a completely devoted mother to her children.

She was incredibly proud of her children, and went above and beyond in every possible aspect of motherhood to give them the all of the best of herself.

Anyone that knew Rubi would agree that she was the strongest, most unwaveringly loyal and incredibly fierce woman that we have all had the absolute pleasure of knowing.

She will truly be missed and cherished by all those that knew and loved her.

Her friends and family will honor her memory for the rest of their lives.

Rubi is survived by: her husband, Seth Horner; her beloved children, Lilyth and Henry Horner; and her aunt, Maria Blakemore; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 10, at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with officiating. Interment services will follow in a private cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, June 9, from 6-8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
