Crestel Green, 81, died April 9, 2023. He was born in Salem on May 20, 1941, to the Leon and Annie Ethel Green. Crestel was an amazing man who accomplished much. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army to serve his country. He and the love of his life, Janet, were married for 59 years. Crestel had many successful careers – prison guard, lineman, construction company owner – but returned to the career he loved, lineman. He retired at the age of 70 due to an injury to his shoulder. However, he never truly retired, as he always enjoyed working down in the barn/garage, staying there from sunrise to sunset. Crestel was an amazing man who accomplished so much. He donated a kidney to his brother, Roger, in 1971 – one of the first kidney transplants ever in the United States. You can only have one father, and Crestel was that man. He raised five girls who could not have asked for a better father. He was loving, a provider, friend and nurturer. Crestel was a simple man. He was one-of-akind, and the love of family meant everything to him. We cannot express how much he is going to be missed. You will be forever in our hearts. We love and miss you so much. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Roger, Chester and June. He is survived by: daughters, Debra Frost (Randy), Susan Thompson, Lisa Cross (Robert), Sharon Wagoner (Frank) and Christina Green; sister, Nell, who is 89; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Family and friends will gather Saturday, June 17, at the Salem Baptist Church Fellowship Hall (10400 Fish Creek Road) at noon. Gracious loved ones from Salem will provide food before a graveside ceremony at Woodward Cemetery.
