    Shirley Ann Simpson Scott

    Posted on December 21, 2023

Shirley Ann Simpson Scott, 87, of Dowling Park (formerly of Perry and Naples), went to live with Jesus on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023. She was born in Scanlon, Fla., to Eugene Debb Simpson and Florida Falany Simpson. Shirley spent her early years helping her family on their farm. It’s been said that she and her daddy won the cross-cut saw competition at the Pine Tree Festival several times in the 1950s and 1960s. After her marriage and the children came along, she spent her days as a full-time wife and mother, raising her sons. After a time, she began an in-home daycare for children. Once the boys were out on their own, Shirley began working outside the home, including at Gandy Motor Lodge in Perry, managing the administrative matters for the mobile home park. After moving to Naples in the 1990s, she worked as a property manager for a condominium complex before becoming secretary of Celebration Community Beach Church in Naples, where she was a charter member. She returned to Perry in the early 2000s to help care for her mother. In 2018, she moved to Dowling Park’s Carter House. She was active up until the time of her death, being completely independent, which was a sweet and total blessing from God. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Eugene and Florida Simpson; her son, Todd; her grandson, Curt; and her sister, Nan Miller. Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Annie Scott of Naples and Ty and Lisa Scott of Perry; her grandsons and granddaughter-in-law, Chad Scott of Naples, Zack and Sarah Scott of Mt. Dora, and Brian Scott of Naples; her one and only greatgrandson, Shepherd; and a sister, Debbie Lawson; along with beloved nieces and nephews, as well as an aunt, uncle and several cousins and many friends. Due to illness within the family, a memorial service is not scheduled at this time. Plans for a future service will be communicated through social media (Facebook). Memorial contributions may be made to either Samaritan’s Purse, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews or Doctors Without Borders, three charities close Shirley’s heart.
