Annie Mae Thomas Porter opened the Book of Life on July 27, 1945, in Foley. God welcomed her home on Feb. 14, 2024.
She was born to Doretha Thomas and Jessie Coon; however, she was raised by a wonderful stepfather, Mr. Theodore Whetsel Sr., all of whom preceded her in passing.
She was educated in the Taylor County School System and was a graduate of Jerkins High School Class of 1963.
She was a faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities and was always willing to do the work of the Lord.
Annie was as an employee of the Taylor County School Board, retiring after more than 20 years of service. She was employed for approximately 10 years as the kitchen manager and cook of the Tender Love Daycare Center.
She was a poll worker, a home-care companion to her neighbor/friend and her daughter until she could not serve anymore.
She was a faithful in the hollowing: First Bethlehem Baptist Association, church choir, Missionary Society and church hospitality committee. She loved her church and community, adored and served her family, but most importantly, she worshipped and served Jesus Christ.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three children, Shawanda Massey, Charles Porter ( Tanesha) and Dawn Higgs (Robert); one sister, Allison McNealy; five brothers, Robert Lee Thomas (Carolyn), Theodore Whetsel Jr., Crosby Whetsel Sr., Warren Whetsel (Rosalind) and Lewis Leon Whetsel; seven God-children; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. at Antioch M. B. Church, followed with the interment at Springhill Cemetery.
Public visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 23, from 4:30-6 p.m. at Antioch M. B. Church. Trinity Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
