    Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Sheffield Drawdy

    Posted on February 23, 2024

Mrs. Elizabeth (Beth) Sheffield Drawdy or, as Papa called her, “Bug,” passed away at the age of 87 on Feb. 18, 2024, at Doctors’ Memorial Hospital in Perry.

She was born Dec. 19, 1936, in Mayoto John B. Sheffield and Rose Sheffield.

Beth was an avid “fisher-woman.” Whether it was the banks of the Steinhatchee River, the lakes and streams of Canada, or Texas Lake, she fished them all. Rain or shine, live bait or a top water plug, she’d out-fish you every time.

But her absolute favorite thing in the world was “rasslin.” Monday through Sunday you’d better not be in the way of the TV or you’d be the first to get the smack down on ya! No more cowboys and Indians. For the night it was WWE.

She was a light and brought joy to anyone she came into contact with. She was an amazing mother and granny, not just to her family but to her whole community.

Beth was a true soldier for the Lord and an active member of Salem Baptist Church.

Some of her favorite hobbies included bottle and arrowhead hunting, cooking, spending time with family and tending to her yard and garden. She was often referred to as the “mad mower.”

She served as a janitor at Salem Baptist Church and asked for no pay. She also spent many years working in the nursery at the church.

Beth was preceded in death by: her parents, John B. Sheffield and Rose Sheffield; her beloved son, Billy John; her brothers, Mitchell, Gerald, Major and Eli Sheffield and his wife, Jan; her sister, Margaret, Mary and Gail Sheffield and her husband, Willie Smith; her son-in-law, Don Wilson; and her lifelong best friend, Dot Chester.

She is survived by: her husband of 65 years, Billy Drawdy; children, Cathy Drawdy Wilson, Ann Drawdy Hudson and her husband, Shawn, Robert Chester and his wife, Sandy Gail Chester; brothers, Marvin Sheffield and his wife, Lucretia Sheffield, Royce (Hint) Sheffield and his wife, Ethel,; grandchildren, Kacie, Korie, Konnor Wilson, Chase and Taran Barger, Brandon and Brooke Hudson, Valarie Brown and Lacy Knafel; great-grandchildren, Kyndall and Gabe Livingston, Gracelynn Elizabeth Barger, Finley Brown and Jackson and Presley Knafel; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and a community of friends she called family.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. in Woodyard Cemetery with Brother Steve Fox officiating.

All arrangements are under the care of Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Perry. Friends may sign the online guestbook at joepburnsfuneralhomes.com.
