Edward “Ed” Harvey, 79, of Perry passed away at his home on March 9, 2024. He was born to E.C. Harvey Sr. and Annie Carter Harvey on December 20, 1944, in Jacksonville. Ed was a conscientious public servant who worked in numerous government roles throughout his life. He served in the United States Marine Corps reserve from 196772 as a tank commander. Ed then served the students of Tallahassee as an English teacher at Rickard’s High School. Ed had a profound passion for learning. From philosophy and history, to music, science and art, Ed appreciated and sought to embody the highest ideals of the Western Enlightenment tradition. Among his many pursuits, Ed enjoyed playing his saxophone, learning new languages, shooting his bow, cutting and splitting firewood with his meticulously handsharpened axe, and growing his garden. To those closest to him, Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was married to his devoted wife, Nonnie Harvey, for 45 years. To his children and grandchildren, Papa was a pillar of wisdom, encouragement, stability and strength. Ed was preceded in death by: his parents, E.C. and Annie Harvey; brothers, George and Andy; and sister, Libby.
