    Posted on February 5, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Isadore “Izzy” Rommes. He was 79.

He passed away peacefully on Jan. 25, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Everett, Wash., on Aug. 29, 1945.

He spent his life proudly serving his family, his country and the community.

Izzy started his military career when he was drafted into the United States Army in 1967.

His love for his country compelled him to continue his service in the National Guard, and then the U.S. Army Reserves.

During his time with the Army Reserves, he was deployed multiple times overseas to serve in the Middle East and Cuba.

He retired from the Army Reserves in 2005 as a colonel.

During his career as an attorney, he maintained a private practice for 20 years and served, at various times, as a public defender, school board attorney and city attorney.

After returning from Operation Desert Storm, he closed his private practice and went to work for the State of Florida Department of Agriculture, where he retired in 2010.

His involvement with the community included: Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge, Taylor County Senior Center, Doctors; Memorial Hospital Board and various veteran’s organizations and projects.

During his free time, he enjoyed reading, a good chess match and playing tennis.

Izzy is survived by: his three daughters, Angela Wilson (Brian), Kristina Whiteside (Chris) and Erica Rommes (Chris Brunson); grandchildren, Casey Wilson (Kaitlyn), Judson and Noah Whiteside, Bryson Fowler, Brantley and Miranda Cruce, and Kailee Peake (Justin); brothers-in-law, Ronnie Brafford (Janet) and Ricky Brafford (Susan); many nieces, great-nieces and nephews; and North Carolina family.

He was preceded in death by: his beloved wife of 55 years, Linda Brafford Rommes; his mother, Pauline Brower; and his in-laws, Ned and Josie Brafford.

As we celebrate Izzy’s remarkable life, we invite family and friends to join us.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow immediately after, at 3 p.m., at Burn’s Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice (1723 Mahan Center Blvd/Tallahassee, FL 32308) or Wounded Warrior Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ – with “in memory of Izzy Rommes” noted.
