Patricia Permuy Meyerin passed away unexpectedly March 23, 2025.
She was born on Jan. 30, 1958 in Vineland, N.J., to Patricia and Joseph Permuy.
The family moved to south Florida where, as an adult, Pat met her husband, Dietrich Meyerin.
Pat was an officer with Royal Palm Beach Police Department for a few years before the couple moved to Taylor County in the 1990s. She went to work with the Department of Corrections in 1997 and retired as a sergeant in February 2014.
She was an instructor with the North Florida Community College Criminal Justice Academy during the same period.
She returned to the Department of Corrections in August 2021 as an inmate educator and retired a second time in February 2024.
Pat was involved in many community organizations, including volunteering with Big Bend Hospice and Taylor County Community Emergency Response Team. She served as executive director and chairman of the board of the local Habitat for Humanity.
After Hurricane Helene, Pat spent many weeks working with other volunteers cleaning up storm debris using her personal tractor. She was slated to be recognized for her volunteer work at a reception to be held March 28 at the Florida Governor’s Mansion.
Pat was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband and brothers, Steve and Carl Permuy.
She is survived by: her brothers, Joe and wife, Nancy Permuy, and Bill and wife, Elaine Permuy; many nieces and nephews; and a multitude of loving friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice or Taylor County Habitat for Humanity.
