Mildred Verdell Brandon Born on Jan. 1, 1948, to Bishop Izell Montgomery Sr. and Helen Adele Montgomery-Smith, Mildred Verdell Brandon embodied love, faith and devoted service throughout her life. She graduated in 1965 from Jerkins High School, where she was crowned “Miss Jerkins” Homecoming queen in her hometown of Perry. She was a member of the band, chorus and Honor Society. Mildred transitioned on May 6, 2025, at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy of love, and family. Her presence brought warmth and joy to every person that came by her. Her doors were open for those in need and her words were kind and impactful. Mildred’s legacy remains with: her three children Stephanie Brandon, Orlando, Michael Brandon (Braunwynn Brandon), Lithia, Fla., and Erika Laws (John Laws) Mt. Holly, N.J.; four grandchildren, Ashleie Gordy, Michael Gordy (Lisette Ramirez-Gordy), Corey Staples and Matthew Staples (Abbie Staples); two great-grand children, Jezariah Gonsalves- Gordy and Tristen Gordy; and a great-granddaughter, Milani Gordy, arriving September 2025; siblings, Charles (Addie) Montgomery, Nathan “Todd” (Renee) Smith Jr., Izell Montgomery Jr., Ellen Montgomery Smith, Wilma Montgomery Brown, Beverly Smith, Phyllis Smith, Conrad Smith, Angela (Vincent) Montgomery Williams, Ruby Oliver, Annie Montgomery, Maggie Montgomery, Cynthia Montgomery-Gainey, Danika Britt, Galvin (Keyonna) Britt Sr. and Willis (Elaine) Montgomery; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 24, from 5-6 p.m. at New Mount Zion M.B. Church. A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, May 25, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Olive M.B. Church. Interment will follow at Springhill Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
