    William “Billy” Thomas Freeman

    William “Billy” Thomas Freeman, beloved husband, devoted family member and skilled tradesman, passed away on June 20, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on Dec. 13, 1953, in Perry, he was a lifelong resident of the town and an integral part of the community that he cherished. William, affectionately known as “Billy” to those who knew him, was a jack-of-all-trades with a heart full of generosity and spirit. Raised in the Primitive Baptist faith, his values centered around compassion, hard work and a deep connection to nature. He was an original pioneer Taylor County Floridian and was proud to be part of the descended heritage. An avid outdoorsman, Billy really loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. In his professional life, Billy found fulfillment as an electrician and a truck driver, call sign “Schemin Freeman,” where he built lasting friendships and became well-known for his jovial personality. His knack for practical jokes and his love for sharing laughter made him a cherished figure among his peers. Billy had a special talent for captivating and inspiring the younger generation, often delighting children with magic tricks, card tricks and mind puzzles. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bry and Edith Freeman, and his siblings, Judson Freeman, Jerome Freeman and Virginia “Dink” Poppell. Billy is survived by his loving spouse of 52 years, Debbie Freeman, who provided him unwavering support throughout their life together. He is also survived by his son, Bry Freeman and his wife, Beth; his grandchildren, Brett and Bradley Freeman; and his sister, Gwen Freeman; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. His warmth will be greatly missed by his family and friends who will remember him for his infectious laughter, kind heart and rich storytelling. Funeral services were held in honor of William Thomas Freeman Tuesday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Pastor Robert Kirkland officiating, which allowed those who knew and loved him to come together and celebrate his life. Interment followed the services at Pisgah Cemetery in Perry, where many generations of family members lay. Visitation was held Monday, June 23, from 6-8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home. In this time of grief, we invite all who were touched by Billy’s life to join in remembrance, sharing stories, laughter and love as we honor a remarkable man who made a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
