Hazel Cox Vann, 89, of Lamont passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. She was born in Pineville, Ky., on April 15, 1936, to Mr. Caleb Cox and Ms. Nellie Anderson. On Nov. 8, 1951, Hazel married the love of her life, John Henry Vann, and together they built a beautiful family rooted in faith, hard work and unconditional love. A devoted wife and mother, Hazel dedicated Hazel Cox Vann her life to being a stay-athome mom, raising eight children, each of whom brought her tremendous pride and joy. Hazel is survived by her children: Ruth Taylor (husband, Levis), Jesse Vann, Dela Vann Carroll (husband, Frankie), Jim Vann (wife, Patricia), Eunice Vann Coulliette, Tom Vann (wife, Cherie) and Jane Vann Sadler (husband Jeff). She also leaves behind a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as her daughter-inlaw, Denisia Vann. Hazel was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, John Henry Vann; her son, Sam Vann; her sonin-law, Lessly Coulliette; and her granddaughters, Jessica Coulliette and Audra Vann. A faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Shady Grove, Hazel lived a life marked by hospitality, generosity and steadfast Christian devotion. Most days, Hazel could be found in her sewing room, lovingly stitching clothes for her family or making alterations for neighbors and friends. When she wasn’t sewing, she was in her kitchen – cooking for anyone who stopped by, whether they were family, friend or simply someone who needed a warm meal. Hazel’s home was always full – full of children, full of family, full of conversation, laughter and prayer. Everyone who walked through her door was welcomed as family. No one ever left hungry, unnoticed or without one of Hazel’s trademark hugs and her heartfelt “I love you.” Her warmth, strength and unwavering love created a legacy that will continue to shine through her family for generations to come. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at the Joe P. Burns Funeral Home Chapel in Perry with the Rev. Bobby Hall officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
