Swearingen named interim sheriff in Leon County

Taylor County native Robert Swearingen has been appointed by Florida Governor Rick Scott as interim sheriff for Leon County following the Dec. 24 death of Sheriff Larry Campbell, who succumbed to his battle with cancer.

Campbell died at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family and members of his command staff. Elected in 1996, he was first diagnosed with cancer in 2007, again in 2013 and most recently this month.
