Katie Florence Baskin Monroe was born on September 10, 1935, in Union Spring, Ala., to the late E.K. and Emma Baskin.
Katie confessed Christ at an early age in Alabama and united with New Brooklyn Missionary Baptist Church after relocating to Perry where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher (Class #2), Youth Director, Treasurer, Trustee and Deaconess. She was an active member of the Lily White Lodge #110, Order of the Eastern Star.
She graduated from Perote High School in the Class of 1953. She worked for many years as a Purchasing Clerk at Doctors Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1998.
Following the path that God ordained for her life, she was united in holy matrimony to Aaron L. Monroe on March 3, 1956, and to their union three adorable children were born.
Deaconess Katie Monroe was ushered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, August 9, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Monroe and her parents, E.K. and Emma Baskin.
She will forever remain in the hearts of her three devoted children: Cynthia Harris (Clyde), Sharon Monroe both of Perry; Kristy Monroe of Jacksonville; one stepson: Jerome Monroe of Orlando; god-daughter: Kiara Gray, six grandchildren: Aundre, Sonya, Tiffany, Jabari, Caretta, Malcom, special uncle: Kilus White, that was like a brother to her and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 11 a.m. at New Brooklyn Missionary Baptist Church at 817 West Hampton Springs Avenue in Perry. with Reverend William Ricky Bolden officiating.
