    Ronald “Curly” Craig Cash

    Ronald “Curly” Craig Cash, 69, passed away on July 25, 2021, in Perry.

    Curly was born Jan. 20, 1952 in Vero Beach to Roscoe Cash and Wanda Tedder Cash.

    He was a graduate of Taylor County High School, Class of 1970, where he played football and was selected as an All-State offensive guard for two consecutive years.

    He received his nickname “Curly” from Coach Glenn Watts, for his curly hair, and it stuck with him for the rest of his life.

    He was also on the track team.

    Curly married his high school sweetheart, Dara Smiley, right out of high school in 1971. He then honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserves for six years.

    He then began working for Watkins Construction until 1980, when he opened the Country Cabinet Shop, and built many homes over the years in Taylor County.

    He is fondly remembered at that time for sponsoring an All-Star travel softball team from Perry.

    Curly worked all of his life in the construction industry, later going back to work for Watkins as the project manager and closed out his career, overseeing multi-million dollar jobs from South Carolina to Washington State.

    He was a Baptist and a member of Westside Baptist Church.

    In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, running deer dogs and working in his garden.

    He is preceded in death by: his parents, Roscoe and Wanda Cash; a brother, Darrell Cash; and a sister, Beverly Denmark.

    Curly is survived by: his high school sweetheart of 45 years, Dara Cash; his boys, Jimmy (Angie) Cash and Freddy (Sandy) Cash; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Diane (Charles) Carlton and Barbara (Tom) Baumgardner; his brother-in-law, Ronnie Denmark; and sister-in-law, Vivian Worthington Cash; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 30, at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Billy Gipson and Brother Tim McDonald officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterward in Carlton Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m.
