    Robert R. Swain

    Mr. Robert R. Swain, 91, passed away on July 13, 2023, in Perry. He was born June 18, 1932, in Mayo to Randolph Swain and Mary Nelle Land Swain. Robert honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Swain was a Baptist and a member of Southside Baptist Church. Robert did so much here in Taylor County, but will especially be remembered for being the founder of Swain’s Family Restaurant, Papa’s Fast Foods, American Aluminum and Cam Locker. He was also a cattle farmer for many, many years. He was a longtime member of the Taylor County Horseman’s Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, was an honorary member of Sandhill Hunt Club and founded the Taylor County Coon Hunters Association. Robert was preceded in death by: his wife of 67 years, Iris Swain; his parents, Randolph and Mary Nelle Swain; his brothers, Edward Swain and Jack Swain; and his sister, Wanda Swain. Mr. Swain is survived by: children, Tom (Mary) Swain and Linda Gail Lawson; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Arnold, Ryan (Amy) Sherrer, Rachelle (Randy) Lynch, Tyler Sherrer, Natasha (Wayne) Elam, Allen Swain, Melissa Swain and Lindsey (Adam) LaJoie; his great-grandchildren, Grant (JoDee) Hoover, Hunter Hoover, Zoe Elam, Karlee Sherrer, Ava Lynch, Christopher Amador, Zane Elam, Addison Russell, Falon Lynch, Ryver Arnold, Robbie Swain, Presley Sherrer, Mason Lawson, Nova LaJoie, Kaylee Zasada, Ellie Sherrer, Iris Sherrer, Sawyer Lawson, Alexander LaJoie, River Sherrer, Theodore LaJoie and Landry Sherrer; and his brothers, Clayton (Carol) Swain and Sidney (Susan) Swain; as well as a host of nieces and nephews; special caretakers, Pamela Stripling and Peggy Myer; and “His Girl,” Michelle Green. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 15, at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Gary French officiating. Interment services followed in Woodlawn Cemetery.
