Patricia Elizabeth Cook, 79, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025. Born to Luther and Elizabeth Gunter on Aug. 21, 1945, Patricia was a woman of many talents, a fierce mother and a loving friend to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Thomas E. Cook; her parents, Luther and Elizabeth Gunter; and her brother, Ronald Gunter. Throughout her life, Patricia made her mark as an avid traveler, artist, author, and even a politician and lobbyist. But first and foremost, she was a dedicated mother who worked tirelessly for her family. At the age of 49, after raising her children, she returned to college, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminology and psychology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). She then continued her education during her tenure as caregiver to her husband for 16 years and obtained her master’s degree in psychology through Walden University. Patricia’s career was marked by service to others. She worked for both Senior Services of Taylor County and Blind Services with the State of Florida. Patricia’s legacy lives on through her two loving daughters, Sabra Farnell and Candi Cook; her wonderful son-in-law, Bennie Farnell; and her cherished grandson, Nikolas Cook. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, at Burns Funeral Home in Perry at 1 p.m., with services following at 2 p.m. Following the service, a New Orleans-style march will take place through Woodlawn Cemetery to her final resting place. At Patricia’s request she wanted no tears, but rather a celebration of life, with music, laughter and dancing in the streets.
