    Betty Milton

    Betty Milton, 98, of Perry, died peacefully in her sleep at home Feb. 3, 2025.

    She was born on Aug. 25, 1926, in St. Petersburg and was the oldest of three children.

    She was preceded in death by her mother, Thedora Reynolds Pierce; her father, Carl Saunders Pierce; her brother, Carl Fara Perce; her sister, Genevieve Pierce Beachler; and her husband of 45 years, Wallace W. Milton.

    Betty graduated from St. Petersburg High School in St. Petersburg in 1944.

    In her junior year, she started working at Hillsborough River State Park as a Junior Park Naturalist and lifeguard.

    She later worked there as a park ranger while attending St. Petersburg Junior College.

    She was awarded the George Lynch Scholarship her freshman year in college and also interned as a teacher at Plant High School.

    Betty earned an Associate of Science degree in 1947, then transferred to Florida State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1949.

    She worked in the Agronomy Lab at the University of Florida for two years while her husband was attending the University of Florida.

    Betty started teaching at White Springs Elementary in 1965 and retired as a science teacher from Taylor County Junior High School after teaching for 22 years.

    Betty was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Merit Badge Counselor.

    She was also active in Little League Baseball in White Springs.

    She enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, and was an avid gardener.

    She is survived by her sons, Dale, Mark and David.

    There will be a simple Celebration of Life gathering at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Perry Saturday, March 22, at 11 a.m.
