Shirley Lundy, 89, of Madison, entered her heavenly home on Sept. 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Oct. 6, 1935, in Eridu to Walter and Jewell Grantham Connell. Raised in her early years by her grandfather, Jim Grantham, she learned faith, hard work and the importance of family from a young age. A Taylor County graduate, Shirley began her career in 1958 with the Taylor County School System, working in the cafeteria while attending night school at North Florida. She later enrolled at Florida State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Shirley went on to teach for many years, retiring in 1993. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Shirley’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She loved her Lord and Savior deeply, and she faithfully served Him as a prayer warrior, a teacher and a faithful wife and mother. She shared 62 wonderful years with her husband, Delton Lundy, and together they built a legacy of love. She poured her heart into her family, delighting in her sons, their wives, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. On Oct. 20, 1951, Shirley married the love of her life, Delton Lundy. They were blessed with two sons, Danny Lundy and Doyle Lundy. Shirley was well known for her warm kitchen, her gift of hospitality and her unwavering faith. Whether she was cooking for family, teaching the Bible or hosting visiting pastors and missionaries, Shirley lived to serve others. Her family and friends will forever remember her steadfast prayers, quick wit and generous spirit. She is survived by: her sons, Danny (Treva) Lundy and Doyle Lundy; her grandchildren, Tim (Atesa) Lundy, Jeremy (Rachel) Lundy, Danielle (Matt) Robinson, Amanda (Will) Hall and Suzanne (Curt) Whitfield; her greatgrandchildren, Hunter Lundy, Kara (Kalob) Hunter, Gabriel Lundy, Gracie Lundy, Noah Lundy, Landen Patrick, Sarah Lundy, Colson Patrick, Lydia Robinson, Karis Whitfield, Raylann Whitfield, Tilt Hall, Elena Hunter and Baby Hall on the way. She is also survived by her sisters, Theresa Kuhn, Mildred Kelly and Lillie Carter, along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Delton; her parents; her brother, Arthur Worley; her sister, Linda Joy Worley; her step-brothers, A.C. Worley, Frank Worley and Jesse Worley; and her stepsister, Joyce Copeland. A celebration of Shirley’s life was held Thursday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. A private family burial will follow at Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 6-8 p.m. at Joe P. Burns Perry Chapel. Her life was a testimony of faith, love and service, and her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Operation Christmas Child through one of our local churches.
