James “Richard” Sanders Sr., 87, of Cross City passed away on April 8, 2026. He was born on May 9, 1938, to the late J. B. and Mildred Sanders in Cross City. James ‘Richard’ Sanders Mr. Sanders dedicated 45 years of service as a lab technician, first with Procter & Gamble and later with Buckeye Cellulose, retiring as lab manager. He was a proud 60-year member of Joppa Masonic Lodge No. 4 and a faithful member of Rock Sink Baptist Church both in Old Town. He will always be remembered for his love of his family, especially the time he cherished with family and friends at the mouth of the Suwannee River. Mr. Sanders is survived by: his wife of 69 years, Mary Jane Sanders; his sons, James “Ricky” Sanders, Jr. (Robin) and Martin Conway Sanders (Bernadine); his brothers, Johnny Sanders, Charles Sanders, David Sanders and Steve Sanders; eight grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; one greatgreat-grandchild; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joel Sanders and Curtis Sanders. Funeral services for Mr. Sanders will be held Sunday, April 12, at 3 p.m. at Rock Sink Baptist Church in Old Town, with Pastor Al Paulson and Pastor Dustin Logan officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Sink Cemetery.
