Frankie “Frank” Lee Waddell Sr., 60, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 10, 2026. Born on Dec. 21, 1965, in Beckley, W. Va., Frank was a man whose life was marked by quiet strength, devotion to his family and a steadfast faith in the Lord. At the time of his passing, he had made his home in Perry. Frank was the son of the late Bobbie “Bob” Waddell and Nadine Waddell Kenworthy. He was blessed with a close and loving family, and throughout his life, family remained at the center of who he was. Frank worked for many years as a grave digger and was known as an all-around handyman. He was a man who did not shy away from hard work and could be depended upon to lend a helping hand when it was needed. Those who knew him will remember not only his willingness to work, but also the dependable, steady presence he brought to the lives of those around him. He was kind by nature and devoted to his family in a way that was both practical and heartfelt. Frank found joy in the simple and meaningful things of life, especially anything outdoors. Fishing, hunting, target shooting and other outdoor pursuits were among his favorite pastimes. He also took great pride in supporting his son in his shooting competitions, finding happiness in seeing his child doing what he loved. These moments spoke to the deep pride he carried as a father, and to the love he poured into his family’s lives. Frank was a man of faith and loved the Lord, and that faith was an important part of his life. In times of work, in times of family joy, and in the ordinary moments in between, his belief in God was a source of strength and comfort. His loved ones take solace in knowing that he now rests in the eternal care of the Lord he loved. In addition to his parents, Bobbie (Bob) Waddell and Nadine Waddell Kenworthy, and stepmother Ruby Gay Waddell, Frank was preceded in death by his brothers, David and Jimmy Waddell, and sister, Debra Welp. He is survived by: his two children, Frankie Waddell II and Cindy James (Geary) of Conway, S.C., and by his beloved granddaughter, Emilie Mckenna James, whom he adored deeply. One of the most recent joys of his life was becoming a pawpaw, a role he treasured with all his heart. He is also survived by his sisters, Joann Parsons and Lisa Mcvey, and brothers, Bobby Waddell (Sharon) and Jim Elder. Frank leaves behind a legacy of family devotion, hard work and faith. Though his passing came unexpectedly, the memory of his kindness, his steady presence and the love he had for those closest to him will remain with them always. May he rest in peace, and may perpetual light shine upon him. There will be a small, family-only service to be held at a future date.
