Richard Douglas ‘Rick’ Simmons

Richard Douglas Simmons, affectionately known as Rick, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, at Lafayette Hospice in Mayo, Florida.

He was born on Aug. 29, 1952, at Vero Beach Memorial Hospital in Vero Beach to both Amos and Lorene Simmons.

Rick spent the early part of his life in Indian River County, where he was raised and lived until 1995. He then relocated to Taylor County to be closer to his parents and the rest of the Simmons family.

Rick was the beloved younger son of the late Amos and Lorene Simmons, and the cherished grandson of the late Ollie A. and Mary Simmons.

He is survived by his devoted brother, Robert E. Simmons, and his loving daughter, Danielle, a Florida resident.

Rick also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends throughout the state of Florida.

Rick will be remembered for his warm heart, strong family ties and the quiet strength with which he faced life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services planned Tuesday, June 17, at 2 p.m. at Pisgah Cemetery with Brother Billy Gipson officiating.

Burns Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
