    Patsy Slaughter

    Patsy Slaughter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dedicated educator, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with MS on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025. Patsy was born May 23, 1954, in Muncie, Ind. She was married to the love of her life, Benny Slaughter, with whom she shared a long and joyful union. Together they raised two sons Charles and Luke Slaughter, who were the pride and joy of her life. She was also a proud grandma to her grandson, Tripp Slaughter. She graduated from Yorktown High School in 1972 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Ball State University in 1975. She earned her master’s from Georgia College in 1978. She dedicated an incredible 42 years of her life to teaching. Her classroom was a place of warmth and encouragement, and her impact continues to be felt through many lives she helped shape. She is survived by: her loving husband, Benny Slaughter; her sons, Charles and Luke (Shelby) Slaughter; and her grandson Tripp Slaughter. She graduated from Yorktown High School in 1972 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Ball State University in 1975. She earned her master’s from Georgia College in 1978. She dedicated an incredible 42 years of her life to teaching. Her classroom was a place of warmth and encouragement, and her grandson, Tripp. Also surviving her are her sister and brother-inlaw, Charla and Brian Hiatt; her special friend, Carol Pickron; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sue and Rufus Slaughter; sisterin-law, Wendy Slaughter; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randy and Tori Slaughter; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and a host of loving cousins who brought joy and laughter to her life. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Charles and Barbara Fruitt. Patsy will be remembered for her deep love of teaching, her fierce loyalty to family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Burns Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Friends may sign the online guest book at www. joepburnsfuneralhomes. com.
